A musician's ear, on the decks.
I have DJ'd more than 350 Perth weddings, and I came to it as a musician first. Years of learning how music actually works is what I bring to a dance floor, and you can hear it in the transitions.
I only take one wedding a day, and popular dates go one to two years ahead. A few 2026 dates are still open. Tell me yours and I will let you know what is left.
The craft
What a trained ear brings to a dance floor.
Reading a room is the easy half to describe. Here is what my hands are actually doing once I have read it.

Mixed in key
Two songs can share a tempo and still sit in keys that pull against each other, and a room feels that even when nobody could name it. Training as a musician means I hear the key a song is in, so I can move into one that agrees with it. The join stops being something anyone notices, and the energy carries straight through.

Rhythm, not just tempo
Two tracks at the same BPM (speed) can still move in completely different ways, so I match the feel underneath them as well as the tempo. Getting that right is what makes a transition land, and it is crucial in helping your dance floor stay full.

Live mashups, built on the night
Using Serato STEMS I can pull a song apart while it is playing: take the vocal off one track and lay it over the instrumental of another, or hold one song's beat underneath the next to hint at where the night is about to go. Every one is built live, for that room and that moment, which means the mashup your guests hear could be brand new and unique to your dance floor.

Loops, and a bit of wordplay
Looping a phrase and turning it into something the room is not expecting is one of the most enjoyable parts of the job, and tends to be what guests still bring up afterwards, long after they have forgotten which songs were on.
One booking, one night
The live set and the DJ set, planned as one thing.
Because I play both, the move from live music into the DJ set is designed as one continuous evening rather than two bookings meeting in the middle. The last live song runs into the first DJ track with no seam and no pause, so the atmosphere you have spent all evening building simply keeps going.

The practical part
Everything arrives with me.
Speakers, decks, microphones and dance floor lighting, supplied and set up early so nothing is being carried through your reception while guests are in the room. Lighting comes with every package that includes a DJ set. At the end of the night it is packed down quietly, which your venue will thank you for more than you expect.
Before the day you get a Music Document for your songs and a Runsheet for your timings. Couples mention those two documents in reviews more than almost anything else, because they are the difference between hoping the night flows and knowing it will.
